Talking Agave

  • Food Futures debuted the idea of scaled agave in northern Australia by Agave Resources, presented by managing director, Jennifer Wainwright. Jennifer spoke to the aligned features of the agave plant and to its potential uses within Australia, including drought resilient livestock fodder and renewable fuels.

  • Jennifer was invited by ABC NT Country Hour’s Matt Brann to take part in an interview discussing the history of agave cropping in Australia along with future hopes for agave farming across both Northern Queensland and the Northern Territory.

  • Jennifer was a panellist at the Argus Australia Biofuels Forum in Brisbane on December 1st, 2025; alongside Bp and QUT to discuss developments and insights into feedstock supply for future demand. She discussed the challenges and opportunities for biogenic and agricultural feedstocks in Australia, particularly what emerging crops can offer. Jennifer also highlighted that feedstock is lagging in investment and supply chain development and that the biofuels sector needed to engage more with agriculture now, in order to build economically viable and robust supply chains.

  • Following discussion on the Argus Biofuels Forum panel on 1st December 2025, Jennifer was invited to discuss the opportunity of emerging crops like agave in biogenic supply chains with the ABC Country Hour which aired in January 2026. To meet growing LCLF demand, Jennifer highlighted the importance of the biofuels sector working closely with agriculture, as well as recognising the long lead times that promising emerging crops have to reach commercial levels of supply.
